Are You Sick of Zits?
Many people suffer with the skin condition known as acne or Zits; however, medical science continues to look at new remedies. Research into skin care treatment has been advancing for some time now; these days, even with serious cases, there are many skin care treatments available. Most acne skin care products can be broken down into three main areas:
- Internet or Drugstore: Treatment that helps prevents condition
- Internet or Drugstore: Treatment to help relieve the condition
- Prescription only: doctors or dermatologists prescribe special treatments
Those that fall into the preventative category are based around general skin conditioning. For example, toners and skin cleansers that have been formulated to help prevent acne. Whilst many sufferers use these products there are even more people who just want to keep their skin clean and conditioned.
There are acne skin care products that are more specialized in there approach and are formulated to reduce and limit the amount of oil in the pores of our skin. When the pores become clogged with this oil, bacteria which can cause the problem begin to grow. These skin care products are designed to prevent this from happening.
This type of skin care treatment also includes those which exfoliate such as skin peels. These can be bought over the counter or on the internet. They work by reducing oil plus other contaminants from the skin and in the pores; this can reduce harmful bacteria and stop their chance of growth.
Many other acne skin care products have become available over the counter and on the internet; they don’t usually require a prescription. Products that can remove the pore clogging oil contain the ingredient benzoyl peroxide; these include creams, cleansers and peels that slow down acne formation.
In case there is a reaction to the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide, dermatologists recommend that any product you use should be a low concentrations of no more that 5.5 parts per hundred. A good alternative to benzoyl peroxide is anything containing alpha hydroxy acid. You might have to try a few different creams or lotions before you find the acne skin care product that is effective for you’re skin. If nothing you try seems to work, you should contact a dermatologist.
There are benefits of seeing your doctor or dermatologist, they can prescribe you with a prescription for treatments not available over the counter, for example a course of antibiotics. Your dermatologist may suggest a minor surgical procedure to remove the contents of pustules. Never try to squeeze your zits as it can lead to permanent damage of your skin.
Another effective course of skin care treatment is hormone therapy, hormone changes are know to be one cause of acne. With all the treatments available, tackling acne is not that difficult as there are many new products available to help.
