How do i introduce topic of anorexia for a persuasive speech against it?

My teacher told me to talk about how the media’s putting skinny women as models for their clothes etc, and about how many women are trying to meet this expectation by starving, going on diets etc. But how do i introduce anorexia after this? HELP :)

Are you "dying to look good?" Well unfortunately many young women today, who are trying to fit in, are actually dying from anorexia just so they can fit a image that they see in magazines and on T.V. of super skinny women. (That might be a little wordy though, you can reword it, it’s late!) Good luck!

start with something attention grabbing, dont make it sound like a boring drone. How about:

"So i was just wondering if anyone here had heard the news?? yes, that news, you all know what I’m talking about. I know, shocking, isn’t it? Jessica Simpson gained 5 pounds. She’s FAT! FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT! Well no, she doesnt have rolls…but her bones dont stick out. SHES FAT. And did you happen to see the new models for vogue?? they’re the image of perfection-size six all of them!

It’s a sad and unfortunate truth that the media has strongly influenced our opinion on what is beautiful, and what is the ‘perfect’ size for a woman to be…."

hope that gives a little inspiration?
    good luck

Here’s a quick thought on how to introduce it. Once you’ve made your opening statement you will need to bring in the fact that not all people can naturally look like these models without undergoing major changes. Some of these major changes they have used to get there is anorexia and bulimic behaviors, then go from there

"If looks could kill, chances are they already have. Anorexia occurs when a prolonged malfunction of eating which decreases loss of appetite."

Then, compare Bulimia (briefly) and how the two are different because everyone mixes those two up or thinks they’re the same when they both have different terms.

Just say how anorexia comes with a certain perception of a certain type of look that causes the body want that look by not eating thus causing the anorexia behavior or symptoms.

Google anorexia and you’ll find a lot of reasons why. It isn’t always related to image that the media portray but everyday encounters with people in a social environment or the person battling against themselves.

Start off with statistics to get the reader’s attention. You can give specific examples, or a little anecdote.

Simply open up any book on human anatomy and physiology!
The results of anorexia on the human body, are completely contrary to the survival of the body.
If someone is just "dying" to be skinny, in order to conform to societies idea of health and beauty, then they will most likely succeed with the dying part!

Talk about the media for a few sentences and then say that they are promoting anorexia…they are encouraging people to be skinny…and not just skinny…emaciated….that’s wrong and they shouldn’t even be allowed to show pictures of people…of models…that have all their bones poking out and the skin taut against it!! That’s simply disgusting…they want to be this skinny to be "beautiful" but all in all by the time they get that sick and skinny they are not beautiful at all. The media is corrupting young minds about what beauty should look like. GET INTO IT!!! Get worked up and angry about it!!! I don’t know how many reports, essays, speeches on Anorexia but it’s a whole lot!!! Do lots of research!!!
