What are some great ways to lower blood pressure?

I got my blood pressure taken today and my reading was 124/74. I did some resarch and my Diastolic (74) reading was great, but discovered that my Systolic (124) was considered "prehypertension." Normal would be 120 or lower. I’m a ways away from having hypertension, but I want to get out of that "prehypertension" catergory. What are some effective ways of lowering my blood pressure?

I would consider that a great reading! The "norm" is considered to be 120/80. MyTaber’s medical dictionary says this "there are no precise rules concerning what blood pressure reading is considered to represent hypertension. In general, if on several separate occasions the systolic pressure (the top number) is above 140 or the diastolic (the bottom number) above 90, the patient is considered to have elevated blood pressure."
As well, you can not base your blood pressure on one single reading. You need to take several readings to figure out what your blood pressure averages when factoring in several readings. You can also have inaccurate readings if you’re nervous when seeing your doctor.
If you do have a history of high blood pressure in your family or are concerned that your lifestyle is conducive to one of high blood pressure developing, then you should start making lifestyle changes. There are natural and effective ways to help keep your blood pressure within the normal range.

Avoid fried food.fast foods eat healthy foods as salads. baked. broiled or grilled. See your Dr. and calm the stress in your life. Your b/p is pretty normal but I don’t know how old you are. But please see your reg. dr. and keep-up by taking your bp every day. Hope to be of help.

Try avoiding salt in all its forms (table salt, processed meats, cheese spreads and crunchy snacks). Eat foods that lower blood pressure (those foods high in potassium).
