What concerns should I have if any about high blood pressure and pregnancy?
My blood pressure is slightly elevated. I’m concerned that if I got pregnant that it would affect the baby negatively. If there are any health professionals out there who can give me sound advice on this please respond to how high blood pressure would affect a pregnancy and should I be concerned and what are the problems that could/would occur. I hav no knowledge so any information would be helpful Thanks.
Hi there. If you are considering getting pregnant, you should talk to your doctor. There are lifestyle changes that you can make that can lower your blood pressure such as:
* Don’t smoke cigarettes or use any tobacco product.
* Lose weight if you’re overweight.
* Exercise regularly.
* Eat a healthy diet that includes lots of fruits and vegetables and is low in fat.
* Limit your sodium, alcohol and caffeine intake.
* Try relaxation techniques or biofeedback.
I did not have high blood pressure before my pregnancy, but I did have pregnancy induced hypertension (aka preeclampsia) My doctors advised me to eat healthy and put me on bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it.
Best of luck to you.
hey bananas are known to lower blood pressure – so every morning, eat up a banana. (pregnant women are not advised to eat bananas – those who suffer from low blood pressure – because it brings it too low) – so in your situation it will only stabilize things…
stress is no good, so stop stressing… be healthy, eat healthy, keep fit… drink heaps of water, stay of alcohol and drugs… and you’ll be ok…
good luck
Preeclampsia is possible. Search it and learn all you can before making a decision to become pregnant.
I never had high blood pressure until my last trimester. I was put on bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy, and my baby came at 35 weeks. He’s a healthy 10 month old now. The docs told me my pressure would return to normal, but it didn’t. I still take pressure pills up today. However my doc advised me that before I become pregnant to talk to my family docs who will put me on a pressure pill that will be safe for my baby should I become pregnant (the pill I am on now, and most pressure pills are very dangerous to the unborn baby). I would advise you to speak to your family doc or gynecologist and they will probably put you on a pressure pill that will be safe for your baby if your pressure is too high.
Good luck.
